GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF NEW ZEALAND.
LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL. Wednesday, July 14. — The Council met at 2.30 p.m. Dr. Pollen presented n petition of certain leaseholder?, at New Plymouth, praying that a block of land, in which they were interested, be exempted from the Native Lands Administration Bill. The Civil Service Reform Bill was received from the House, and read a first time. Mr. Buckley, in reply to Mr. Men/.ies, said the Governmant had no intention of bringing in a Bill to anvnd the Land Acts, so as to give Land Boards power to grant Crown tenants a temporary reduction of rent, as it would bo dangerous to give such power to Boards. Several Bills wprc moved forward a stage or two. The Council then adjourned at 5 p.m. to next day.
