ELECTION FOR THE BARRETT ROAD BOARD.

The election of members for the Barrett (No. G) Road Beard was held on Monday, and resulted as follows :—: — W. A. Tremaine 24 J. F. Hooker 22 H. T. Wood 21 H. George 21 C. M. Kyngdon 20 P. C. Morton 20 Tho returning officer (Mr. Holmes) gave his casting vote in favor of Mr. George, whose name came first on the list of the last three. The first four were therefore returned.

His Honor Mr. District Judge Rawson left for Patea to-day on circut duty, and will be absent two days. The Court room was reoccupied to-day by the Justice department, and is much improved by its coat of paint. The s.s. Rotorua crossed Manukau bar at 10 a.m. to-day, is due alongside the breakwater at 7 a.m. to-morrow, and sails for Nelson at 9 a.m. It is contemplated making a pond in that part of the hospital grounds which it ia proposed to plant as a pleasure and health resort for the inhabitants of tho town and the inmates of the institution. The attention of the Inspector ot nuisances has, however, been directed to the matter, and that officer is now considering whether a stagnant pool of water, as it is stated it would be, would not be a sort of fever bed, and rather conduce to unhealthiness. A communication was received from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board by the Borough Council on Monday night asking that the Council surrender its interest in six sections of land adjoining the hospital grounds, the sections being required for extension of the hospital site. It was decided to surrender the six sections asked for if the Education Reserves Board would convey to the Council six other sections within the town, viz., sections 322, 323, 324, 868, 885, 884, which are in Gill and Powderham-street.
