[PER rRESS ASSOCIATION.] EARTHQUAKE AT EOTOEUA. Auckland, July 12. A severe shock of earthquake "was felt at Eotorua at 4.30 on Saturday afternoon. The volcanoes were discharging large volumes of smoke and steam all day. Judging from the - direction a fresh out-burst appeared to have broken out near the Paeroa ranges, but no report has been received. A party of four tourists have just arrived, and intend making a third exploring tour and proceed overland to Wellington. QUITTING OIL STOCK. Gisborne, July 12, Considerable excitement exists in town re a report that oil has been struck in the bore of the South Pacific Company. Mr. "Weaver, the mine manager, came in yesterday, but declines to give any absolute information. The reply to his cable to Sydney for further instructions is eagerly awaited. At Melbourne there is a considerable flutter in shares, which were quoted there at ss. to ss. Gd. On Saturday Gs. 3d. was wanted here, but holders now will not sell for that price.
