Sydney, October 2. The Customs returns for last quarter show that the revenue has decreased by £15,000, as compared with the September quarter of 1882. Brisbane, October 2. The general elections are still proceeding. The polling for the five electorates announced to-day gives a large majority to the Opposition candidates returned to the new Parliament. Adelaide, October 2. The Government to-day introduced fresh taxation proposals for the consideration of the House of Assembly.
[PKB UNITED PBESS ASSOCIATION.] FIRE AT Of AHUHU. Auckland, October 2. A fire occurred at Ofcahuhu this morning, destroying four buildings. The insurances are— Arden, butcher, on fittings and furniture, £100 in the Koyal; Anglas, on building, £150, office unknown; Tomb, on building, £125, in Colonial; Todd, on furniture, £75 in National. The heat of the fire melted the teiegraph wires, interrupting communication with the South for several hours.
