AN EARLY SWARM OF BEES.

TO THE EDITOR. Dear Sir, —Yesterday (Ist October) I took a splendid swarm of honey bees, and as this date is equivalent to the Ist of April in the Old Country, it seems a most extraordinary thing to a new coiner. Perhaps some of your readers, "old settlers," might be able to say if it is not unusual even here. Tho old adage as we know it at Horne — " A hive o£ bees in May Ib worth a wagon load of hay," has no doubt in part arisen from the rarity of such an occurrence. In Lincolnsaiie, England, I scarcely ever know them swarm till the, first week in June, which is tho same as our December. I have placed them in a Langstroth hive, No. 2, bought from Mr. Elisha Veale, Bagnail Brothers' local agent. I hope to be able to send you a sample section box of comb honey very early in the season.—Truly yours, Stephen B. White. Waltham Cottage, Liardct-street, 2nd October, 1883.
