Melbourne. June 16. The negotiations which were recently resnmed at Newcastle, with a view to the termination of miners' , strike, have failed, as no agreement could be come to as a basis upon which arbitration should be proceeded with. The men have now submitted their ultimatum to Mr. Gregson, Manager of Agricultural Companies' Colliery, who is considering the same.

A schooner is anchored off the North Beach, flying signals for a tug. Her canvas is blown to ribbons. If her anchor holds, the vessel will be safe. The sea is too heavy for any steamers in port to go to her assistance. The opinion expressed is that she is the schooner Fleetwing. A MAN STABS ANOTHER. Oamartj. June 16. Last night a man named Moynahan stabbed another named McGrath in the abdomen during a quarrel in an hotel. The deposition of the wounded man is now being taken.
