In giving judgment this afternoon in a civil action — Liardet, a fishmonger, v. G. Norris, a baker — the Magistrate said he was of opinion that Liardet had committed most deliberate and wilful perjury, and, therefore, he would give judgment for defendant, and order a committal of the plaintiff for perjury. Bail was allowed, himself in £100, and two sureties of £50 each. MIRANDA FOR FIJI. H.M.S. Miranda is expected to leave for Fiji on Thursday. SUICIDE BY AN OLD WOMAN. Hokitika, June 18. An old woman aged 69 years, named Noble, committed suicide on Saturday, iv her daughter's house, by hanging herself with a rope tied to a nail in her bedroom. An inquest was held, and a

verdict of suicide while under tbe effects of temporary insanity was recorded. Her son-in-law, Kohloff, and his wife testified that they found her hanging by the neck, with her feet just barely touching the ground. Her husband is in Auckland, and they have been separated for fourteen years — ever since the Thames rush. She had threatened to commit suicide several times, and often complained of being separated from her husband. ANOTHER CASE OF STICKING-UP. CmusTcnup.cH, June 18. Another case of sticking-up occurred on Saturday evening, near the Carlton Hotel, hardly half-a-mile from the centre of the town. A gentleman from Blenheim had been visiting some friends, and, on returning about \1 p.m., he was set on by three roughs. With the aid of a stout stick and a couple of dogs, who seemed to enjoy the fun, his assailants were forced to beat a hasty retreat. TEA SHIPS. Dunedin, June 12. The steamer Bowen left Foochoo for Wellington on the 10th June. The Penmuri left a day earlier for Sydney. The latter haa 290 tons of new season's teas for Auckland. BUMPING ON THE BAR. The ship Mataura, bound to London from Port Chalmers, struck heavily once while crossing the bar.
