POLICE COURT.
Monday, November 15. — Before His Worship Captain Davidson, Mayor, Mr. C. D. Whitcombe, J.P., and Mr. T. King, J.P. Breach op The Peace.— Michael Williams and David Morrow were charged with having committed a breach of the peace at Stratford on the Bth November last. Defendants p Leaded guiLty. Mr. Bullen stated that the defendants were fighting in the street at Stratford. They were lined 10s. and costs. Furious Riding. — Evan Connel and Thomas. Baird were charged with riding furiously in Queen-street, Waitara. The "defendants pleaded not guilty. Mr. Halse appeared for the defendants. — Constable Drew stated he saw the defendants riding furiously down Queen-street, Waitara. on the 14th instant. He told them to stop, but they would not do so. He followed them to the Waitara Hotel- and asked for their names.—Crossexamined : They did not hesitate to give their names when asked. He had known horses to shy at the gooJs-shed when the train was there. — Thomas Bird said he was a surveyor in the Public Works Department, and was employed at Ngaire. He rode to the Waitara on Sunday, the 14th November in company with Mr. Counell. They rode quietly until they got to the goods shed, when one of the horses shied, and they started off at a brisk canter. — By the Court : He did not hear the constable tell him to stop. — Cross-examined : They were riding faster than twelve miles an hour. — Evan Connell gave corroborative evidence. — The case was dismissed. Horses Wandering. — John Hooker and James Hooker were fined 2s. each for allowing their horses to wander at large within the Borough. This concluded the business.
