A Chance to Cool.
Two young men, Aleck and Ike, were in the habit of spending their leisure in a hotel kitchen among the girls. As Aleck had the most cheek and the smoothest tongue, ho was the favorite. " Why don't you go in and have it out with Aleck ?" asked one of the boys, addressing Ike. '" It would be useless ; he would sit on that stool till doomsday if I would try it." " Go and kick the stool out of doors," one sugested. " Blame me, if I don't do it." So he marched into the kitchen where Aleck was gabbing with the girls ; the stool was empty ; Aleck was standing by the stove. Ike walked in without speaking, and picked up the stool antf threw it out through the open doorway. " Why, Ike, did you do that ?" cried one of the girls. "Why," said Ike, in an earnest voice, " / ivcuit to give the d thimj a chance to cool.''
