NOTICE. i ANY person or persons fonnd INJURING the TELEGRAPH POSTS, WIRE INSULATORS, or any portions of the Telegraph Line, will be prosecuted in accordance with the following Clauses of ** The Malicious Injuries to Property Act, 1867 :" — Clause XXXVll.— Whosoever shall unlawfolly and maliciously oat, break, throw down, destroy, injnre, or remove any battery, machinery, wire, cable, post, or other matter or thing whatsoever, being part of or being u«ed or employed in or about any Electrio or Magnetic Telegraph, or in the working thereof, or shall unlawfully and maliciously prevent or obstruct, in any manner whatsoever the sending, conveyance, or delivery ot any communication by any such Telegraph, shall bo guilty of a misdemeanonr, and, beinp convicted thereof, shall be liable, at the discretion of the Court, to be imprisoned for any term not exceeding two years, with or without hard labour : Provided that if it shall appear to any Justice, on the examination of any person charged with any offeuoe against thia Bectioa, tbat it ia not expedient to the ends of justice that the same should be proseoated by indictment, the Justice may proceec summarily to hear and determine the same, and the Offender shall on oonviction thereof, at the discretion of the Justice, either be committed to some pnblic gaol there to be imprisoned only, or to be imprisoned and kept to HAiin labour for any term not exceeding three months, or else shall forfeit and pay such earn of money not exceeding ten pounds as t* the Jnstice shall seem meet. Clause XXXVIII. Whosoever shall unlaw folly and maliciously, by any overt act, attempt to commit any of the offences in the laet preceding section mentioned, shall, on conviction thereof before a Justice of the Peace, at the discretion of the Justice, either be committed to any public gaol there to be mprisoned only, or to be imprisoned aud kept ';3 hard labour for any term not exceeding three months, or else shall forfeit and pay such sum of money not exceeding ten pounds as to the Jostice shall seem meet.
