[by telegraph.] The C. & A. mail steamer Brisbane has arrived at Cooktown, from Singapore, and brings the following items of news to the 2nd August : — A shock of earthquake occurred on the 20th July, which completed the destruction of Manilla, and caused great damage, the inhabitants being panic-stricken ; but there was no great loss of life. The whole city oscillated, and the principal buildings are in ruins. The streets are completely blocked, and business prostrated. The Genie left Singaporo on the sth August. Captain Eobardy, holding portfolios of Works, Justice, and Instructor of Artillery, was on board ; also, the Governor of the Colony. Eight hundred and fifty immigrants were expected by the steamer from India.

The pirates who attempted to seize the steamer Bowen have been discharged for want of evidence. Nineteen thousand quiutils of tobacco have been sold at nineteen dollars, being an immense advance.
