The schooner Alert has sailed from Timaru for the Waitara, with a cargo of grain for Mr. McVicars, of the Sentry Hill mill.

We have been requested to remind the members of the Rifle Association that the firing for prizes takes place to-morrow ab one o'clock.

The nomination of candidates for the Borough took place yesterday, when Mr. W. Humphries, who was the only candidate nominated for the Central Ward, was declared duly elocted. The candidates for the East Ward are— Mr. J. C. Adams and Mr. W. Beale, and those for the West Ward— Mr. Bellringer and Mr. Mitchinson. The poll will take place on Thursday next, the 11th instant.
