[by telegraph.] At foitr o'clock this morning a large piece of ground near the Piako Goldmining Company's engine-house collapsed, owing to the insecure timbering in the upper levels of the mine. Thesinkage carried tho winding engine, and tons of brickwork. Tho gear and tramway have entirely disappeared. The damage is estimated at several thousand pounds. Many of tho underground . works are completely destroyed. It is foared that further subsidence Will ensue. The Bank of New Zealand holds a mortgage on the property. BOROUGH OP NEW PLYMOUTH. T?
