DEPARTURE OF THE GOVERNOR.
The Hinemoa leaves Wellington at 5 o'clock this evening, for Taranaki, with the Governor and Premier.
The s.s. Oreti sails to-day for Waitara.
The s.s. Itangitira was exjjected here tomorrow, but owing to her being unavoidably delayed in Wellington till to-night, she will not be here till Sunday, and will leave for Manukau during the day.
Captain Edwin telegraphed yesterday afternoon as follows :- -" Bad weather approaching in any direction between south-cast and east, and north. Glass will further fall ; expect much rain.*'
A meeting of those interested! in Volunteer matters was held last evening, the object for which it was called being to bring the Taranaki Rifle Volunteer corps to its proper standard — fifty men. As will be seen by our report the meeting was unsuccessful in this respect, and the corps has S2:it iv its resignation.
Major Atkinson has received a telegram from his constituents at Patea requesting that he should go down and consult with them, as they consider native matters are looking serious there. Major Atkinson has replied that he will visit the district immediately after the Governor, who is expected here to" morrow, has taken his departure.
