RISING IN CRETE. London, May 2<i. There are serious difficulties in Crete, and a general rising is feared. WEST OP ENGLAND BANK. The Imperial Government intend to prosecute the Directors of the West, of England Bank, wh'ch recently failed. SIR GARNET WOLSELEY FOR THE CAPE. London, May 25. The Chancellor of the Exchequer has made a statement that, after a full consideration of Cape affairs, the British Government has decided to appoint Sir Garnet Wulsoley to the supreme military and civil cominaml of Natal, Transvaal, and the adjoining districts, including the seat of war. AMERICA. AND THE COLONIAL EXHIBITION. America his appointed an Inhibition Commission for Sydney and Moluourne. GARNET WOLSELEY. London, May 26. The Secretary of State for the Colo nies, in reply to a question, said — "General VVolseley is instructed to entertain any bond fide honorable peace proposals." SETTLEMENT OP AFGHAN AFFAIRS. Calcqita, May 27. The Treaty of Peace with ifakoob Khan has been signed. The conditions aro believed to be such as to be a permanent benefit to both countries.
