J. S. DOBBIN'S BANKRUPTCY.

Another meeting of creditors in the estate of John Scott Dobbin, hotelkeeper, Inglewood, bankrupt, was held yesterday, Mr. H. Weston presiding. ' Mr. William Humphries, who in conjunction with Mr. J. Paul, held a Bill of Sale over bankrupts business, was recalled to give fresh evidence. He stated that in February or March last Dobbin came to him and said he wanted to buy some land for himself, and if ,he had the purchase money he could realise £150 or £200 by the bargain. He applied for leave to use a Cash Credit bond, which witness and Mr. Paul had signed, and he was permitted to do so. The bank notified to witness tha*; they looked to him as respoi siblefor the money advanced to Dobbin. Mr. James Paul corroborated the evidence of last witness in the matter pf becoming security to "the Bank for the advances made to Dobbin to purchase some land, which he had persuaded them was a good speculation. At this stage the meeting resolved to adjourn until Friday, when Mr. Hesketh's opinion regarding the validity of the Bill of Sale held by Messrs. Humphries and Paul over bankrupt's property, will be read and discussed.

The following is a Press Association telegram dated Hawera, the 28 th April :—": —" The Maoris have stopped McLean's ineu falling bush on the Mouatain Road, about a mile up the track from Pctermau. It is thought this ■action is taken by Maoris who own this block as a reserve from Government, which extends foui' miles up the Mountain Road. Since the Maori reserve was taken, and a loss valuable one given in its place near Stratford, the natives say they do not know when this block may be taken, and one of lesser value given in its place. The sooner, a Commission or something of the sort settles this vexed ques- , tion of reserves throughout the district the better." r- -. ■.- „ -~ .
