Death ov Mr. William Hough.— A report reached town yesterday, that Mr. William Hough, of Urenui, was dead. He had been suffering some considerable time from inflntnmatiou of the lunirs. Supposed Suicide of a Passenger on Board the • Taranaki.'— A very melancholy occurrence took place on bonrd tho 'Taranaki' on Monday night last, during her voyage from Lyttelton to Wellington, no less than the disappearance of one of tho saloon passengers, named W. H. Bass, who went ou board at Lyttelton with the intention of going to Auckland. Tnu Post says — " When the unfortunate man joined the steamer he was evidently very much under the influence of liquor, nnd it is supposed that he must have been attacked during the night by a fit of delirium trvmens, nud that he jumped overboard, for ho was missing this morning, while a brandy bottle half empty was fouud iv his berth, llnss, jvho was about thirty years of age, wns tho umto of a small vessel trading out of Lyttelton, had a wife and family nt the Manukau. The stewards ou board the 'Tuiunaki' seeing his condition, would not supply him with any liquor, but he had taken a bottle of brandy with him. About midnight he became very violent, and was assisted on deck, as ho said that if left there he would Boon ,come round. He waa never si'O.u afterwards."
