Value of Life Insurance.— As showing the advantages ntteu.lant upon life insurance, the New Zealand Times says — It may be noticed that the man Alexander Taylor, killed by the boiler explosion near Oamaru on Monday, had insured his life in the Australian Mutual Provident Society on the' 2nd May last. Thus he has secured, by the payment of one quarter's premium, a sum of £500 for hia heirs. : t '■ / Important to Trustees — An important decision in connection with tho Debtors and Creditors Act has been given by the Dunediu Resident Magistrate. It appears that Mr. J. 11. P. Stamper, rscently received £13 from an incolventafterfiling a declaration of insolvency as bis solicitor. .His Worship held that the bankrupt (B. F. Stohr) was not entitled to a shilling of the money, which solely belonged to the creditors. Judgment was given against Mr. Stamper in favour of the trustee for £13. His Worship, however, pointed out that Mr. Stamper's proper course was to apply to the trustceß to pass his account, and there was no doubt that they would do justly in the matter. There was no reason to think otherwise. For the guidance of trustees in futuro, his Worship expressed the opinion that he questioned tho right of a trustee to employ a solicitor, without tho authority of tho creditors. Mr. Hownrth said that trustees employed accountants pretty freely now. His Worship remarked that trustees should act under the present law with very great caution. — Lyttelton Times.
