WAITARA.

ARRIVAL. May 28.—Alert, schooner,44 tons, Hayes, from Lyttelton. Cargo—l, Boo bushels wheat, 1,300 do oats, 500 do seed oats, 20 sacks rye grass seed, 18 varieties seed potatoes, 5 sacks tares, Websters & Hulke.—Webster Bros., agents.

The Julius Yogel, which arrived at Waitara totally dismasted on the 25th instant, has discharged her inward cargo, since which time Captain Clarke has been actively engaged rigging jurymasts, &c, intending to take her to Wellington for the necessary repairs, aud expects to be ready for sea in about four days. It must be highly satisfactory to the owners, as also to the Insurance Companies, that the vessel was not a total loss. At the time of the accident the wind was E.N.E.. and under less favorable circumstances many vessels have been abandoued. Very great praise is duo to Captain Clarke for bringing his vessel safe to port, and without any loss of life. At the time of arrival of the vessel off Waitara the wind was W.S.W., which w.is a prcventitive to her entering the river, thus showing tho necessity of always having a steamer in tho port. The Waitara has now on two occasions rendered important services; lately with the Hero, and in the present instance with the Julius "Yogel. The schooner Alert arrived in tho Waitara on Sunday last. Captain Hayes reports leaving Lyttelton on the 21st instant, with light variable winds from E.S.E. On the 23rd, off Cape Campbell, spoke the schooner Herald, bound to Lyttelton ; same day wind freshened, and towards evening experienced a strong S.E. gale, veering round to N.W., accompanied with heavy squalls and thick, drizzling rain. Ran to Ship's Cove for shelter, in company with five other vessels.' The gale abating, left again on the 27th, with the wind from the S.E. Was off Cape Egmont at G a.m. on tho 28tfci arrived off Waitara bar at 2 p.m. same dny, and eutered tho river on the 29th, in tow of the s.s. Waitara.
