STEWART'S SETTLEMENT IN AUCKLAND. FAMILIES BRING £1,000 EACH. QUEENSLAND STEALING A MARCH ON NEW ZEALAND. PROPERTY AND INCOME TAX IMMINENT. AUCKLAND. A SPECIAL correspondent writing from Ireland to the Eclto says that the families coming out to the Katikati settlement, with Stewart, -will bring over a thousand pounds each. Tho immigrants only expect to bo conveyed to their homes, and have land surveyed ready .for them, and temporary accommodation, towards which each family will contribute five pounds. Vescy Stewart writes aud s>ays thai he hopes to sail about the last week in April with about thirty -five families, and at least one huudrcd single females specially selected by Mrs. Stewart. Stewart says that he could havo filled fifty thousand acres as easily as ten thousand. The loss of the ' Cospatriok ' threw a damper on emigration. Efforts of Government should be doubled. A ship could be filled at Belfast every three months. The Queensland Government are stealing a march on New^Zcaland. The Stewart immigrants also bring out prize shorthorns, lancoln rams, and prize poultry. The Soutlicrn Cross learns from private source that the four million four and a half per cent loan will nett to the Colony 91, and not 93, and expresses disappointment at the result. It says that Mr. Yogel or someone else will have to levy a property and income tax,
