WASTE LANDS BOARD.

The Board met on Monday afternoon, wheu the Commissioner of Crown Lands presided. Present: Messrs. Stnndish and Crompton. D. Brewer, Wanganui, asking to be appointed Agent for the sale of land. The Board considered the matter, and came to the determiuntiou that it was not advisable to appoint an Agent. Liability of Purclui&crs of Land at Auctions. — A letter was read from the Commissioner of Crown Lands, at Otago, in reply to one sent asking how the clause relative to the nonpayment of the balance of purchase money, was interpreted in thnt Province. The Commissioner stated that it had been invariably the practice in Otago for the purchaser to forfeit his deposit. Such a question as suing for the balance had never occurred in his experience, nor did ho thiuk that the reading of the Clause gave any stipport to such a view. Application for Land.— A letter was read by the Commissioner from Mr. R. C. Downe3, asking for iuforraatioli respecting land, which Mr. Whitcombe said Ho would furnish. Setting aside Land dn Deferred Payment.— Mr. Standish stated that Mr. G. Taylor, who had taken up 112 acres, wished for two sections adjoiuiug on deferred payment. Ho had seen the Superintendent, who had agreed to withdraw the land. He would move, "That Bectiona 50 and 51 having been withdrawn from cash sale by the Superintendent, that; they be set apart for deferred payment, and that the price be £1 os. per acre." —Mr. CKOMI'TON seconded the resolution, which was carried. — It was then decided that they should bo open for selection on the Ist May. The Board theu adjourned till Monday next.
