Pkesekvation ok Stone.— The processes that have been before the public arc many. Silicate of lime has been long known to resist the destructive action of the atmosphere and the Hea water. Mr. Ransomc's silicate process consists in saturating stone with a solution of silicate of Hoda or potash, and afterwards applying chloride of calcium. This latter forms, by contact with tho silicate, nn insoluble silicate of lime, which cements and holds together the particles of tho utoue. Another plan patented by C. N. S/erclmey is the application of. n prepared silicate with ngphaltum. Solutions of linseed oil and sulphur have also been applied with success in flomo instances, though the efficacy of all these processes depends upon the state of dißintegrutiou or decay iv 4 which tho stouo bus fallen.
