July 7- — A sudden fall in all mining stock yesterday, towards evening, occasioned a panic. Caledonians have declined to £160 ; Thames, to £30. The market is firmer to-day, with buyers at quoted prices. Small holders became alarmed in consequence of the small quantity of specimens taken out this week from the Caledonian, whoso men have been employed to secure the mine and sink for a lower level. It is generally believed that the dividauds will be small for the next few weeks, bnt will increase again. Tookeys remain firm. The Governor and Earl Bel more visit the Thames to-day, in the • Luna.' Earl Belmore will probably return to Syduey on Saturday, by the ' Hero.' July 11. — The weather is very stormy, with terrific squalls of hail and rain during the past week. Two fatal accidents have occurred from drowning. Locke arrived at Cambridge on Sunday, from Napier, overland. He had an interview with the Ngatiraukawas at Te Whitn, on the sth and 6th iustant. The road from Auckland to Napier is now open. The Earl and Countess of Belmore returned to Sydney by the ' Hero,' on Saturday. All miuiug stock has still a downward tendency. Caledonian sold to-day at £100 ; Tookey, £24 ; Thames, £22; Alburnia, £S ; Otago, £2 15s. Tho Caledonian pay a £6 dividend to-morrow ; Thames, £1 ; Tookeys, os. Total amount of gold from the Thames daring the month is 34,600 ounces. The Alburnia completed a fortnight's crashing to-day, the result being 989 ounces.
