POPULATION OP TARANAKL The following particulars relative to the population of this Province have been kindly forwarded to us by Mr. C. D. Whitcombe :—: —
The above table shows a decrease of 340 in the population of the town, bat ia the ooantry districts there is au increase of 4G4 persons. The large increase ia the Egmont Distriot has resulted from a portion of the Grey and Bell Distriot haviug been added to it since the last census was taken. The increase of population in this Province is 121 souls.
The Population of Otago. — The following may be accepted as a tolerably correct statement of the population of the different electoral districts of Otago, not including the Southland portion of the Province :—: —
— The ' Rangitoto' being agroaud in Pioton harbour on tho night the Census was taken, the number is somewhat increased for that district.
