AUCKLAND— October 21. The boiler of Tookey's claim burst to-day. It is remarked that a great number of boilers have recently burst at the Thames, from causes little understood. The Hon. J. Yogel has received a numerous and influential deputation of electors of city east Auckland, requesting him to become a candidate for the representation of that district at the next election for the General Assembly. During' the conversation, reference was made to the importance of obtaining a dock for I Auckland. Mr. Yogel consented to stand for the district. About 160 persons have signed the requisition, and Mr. Clarke, the candidate previously in the field, has retired. It is doubted whether Mr. Gillies intends to contest the seat. ; Gold has been discovered in the deep shaft of the Caledonian gold mining Company. The Chinese giant Chang has arrived here, and is to appear shortly. The Provincial Government proposes in its next session to remove existing restrictions as to port charges, so as to remove charges off mail boats calling here. Letters received here by Nathan & Co., state that Webb has docked all his vessels, and will start the 'Nevada' in November, as the pioneer of a monthly line of steamers. It is believed that the first steamer will come to Auckland. Messrs. Nathan & Co. are to treat with the New Zealand Government on behalf of Mr. Webb, and the question of ports of call ia left to the New Zealand Government. This information is perfectly reliable, though Mr. Hall contradicts it. A telegram received to-day states that Tookey's tribucers have obtained thirty-six ounces of gold from twenty-five ounces of stone. General Chute arrived here in the 'Hero' from Sydney, and will remain six weeks. He goes home via San Francisco. A letter from the Bishop of Lich field, acknowledging the receipt of the very beautiful desk composed of New Zealand woods sent from Auckland, has been received. Mr. Blackett, Chief Engineer to the Board of Works, is expected here shortly in connection with the railway surveys. It is stated in the Auckland papers that the natives in the interior have ceased to oppose the telegraphs. The s.s. 'Auckland' is advertised to leave here for the Fiji, on sth November. 2 p.m. — Requisition to Gillies for city west getting up to-day, also to R. Wood. Mr. Binney, auctioneer, sold wheat, good, ss. lid.; middling, ss. 6d. ; inferior, 4s. 4d. ; oats, Bs. 4<d. ; flour, £14 2s. to £14 55. ; barley, £27 per ton. The oats per ' Wave' were withdrawn. Hissell's Oaraaru flour has been sold at £13 14s. 6d. per ton. Anderson Moatt's £14 ss. The Honolulu sugars were quitted at satisfactory prices.
