THE GOVERNOR'S VISIT.

Sib Excellency the Governor, Mr. tfox, and Oapt> Pitt left Wellington in the • Start* on the fiOth instant, intending to pat in at Manawata, as the Governor had an object in visiting thai place, bat was unable to do so in consequence of the unfavourable state of the weather. Abont & p.m. on the 22nd, she was signalled at the Wanganni Heads, bat did not reaoh that port until long after nightfall. On the morning of the 23rd, most of the places of business on Taupo Quay were decorated with flags, and at 10 a.m. his Excellency landed, and was reoeived by the detachment of the 18th Royal Irish, nnder the command of Captain Dawson, drawn up on Taylor and Watt's wbarf. The Volunteer Fire Brigade, nnder Captain Robinson, received his Excellency on Tanpo Quay, and he was accompanied by eevoral of the principal inhabitants of the town, to the Wanganni Hotel, where himself and Mr. Fox remained daring their short stay in town. At noon of the same day, the chiefs and leading men of the loyal Wanganni natives waited on his Excellenoy tha Governor, and presented him with an address. His Excellency thanked them, and said he was happy to be able to congratulate them on the improved state of affairs in Wanganni since his last visit. The improvement, he might observe, was in some measure brought about by the action taken by Kemp and other Wanganui natives in assisting to drive back Tito Kowaru from the Waitotara. He hoped that the friendly relations which had hitherto existed between the loyal Wanganui natives and European settlers, would ever continue ; and assured them that it was the earnest desire of her Graoious Majesty the Qaeen that her native and European snbjeots shonld live under her Government as one happy and loyal people. He then took wine with the leading chiefs, and promised to visit them at Patiki in the evening, which he did, accompanied by the Hon. Mr. Fox. We believe it was the intention of the Governor and suite to have proceeded overland to Patea on Thursday last, weather permitting, the * Start' going round there to take the party up to bring them on to Taranaki, and ihenoe to Manakau. The Governor will hold an undress levee, and a ball will be given to his Excellency daring his stay in this Province. We are sorry that the intended visit has been delayed so long, as it would have been a pleasure to his Exoellenoy to have been here during the past fine weather ; and we fear the excitement of the forthcoming eleotion will tend to distract the attention of the public mind from him during his visit.
