SOCIETY FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE INTERESTS OF TIIE PROVINCE.
A MEETING was held/afc the Taranaki Institute on Monday evening last, to take into consideration tho course the electors si oul 1 take at the meeting called for the 30th ultinv>. Mr. Jackson was voted to the chair. Tho following resolutions were then put and agreed to by the meeting :—: — Mr. Teus proposed, and Mr. "Vivian secondol, " That Mr. Gledhill be requested to propose at the meeting on Thursday next, a resolution showing that the electors aro opposed to the Superintendent being made a nominee of the General Government." Mr. Callagiian proposed, and Mr. Cudd seconded, " That Mr. Jackson a^k the Superintendent to state in what position the Provincial Government stands with regard to tho waste lands of tho Province." Mr. Yejis proposed, and Mr. Gledhill seconded, " That this meeting is of opinion that it is desirable to form a Society for tho purpose of furthering the interests or the Province, and that Mr. Weyergang 'acb as Secretary, pro. tciti." Mr. Vivian proposed, and Mr. Caixaghan seconded, " That any six members be empowered to call a meeting of the said Society." Mr. Yems proposed, aud Mr. Cudd seconded, " That two or more members bo requested to presenh the list of members for this Society to the public for signature," Mr. Yems proposed, and Mr. Callaohan seconded, " That this Society be oalled c The Society for the promotion of tho interest of the Provinco of Taranaki,' and that each member subscribe the sum of one shilling entrance fee." Mr. Ford proposed, and Mr. Allen seconded, " That placards bo posted to invite the people to attend the meeting on Thursday, the 30th April." The meeting then adjourned until Monday evening next, at 7 o'clock.
The Society for the Promotion of the Interest of the Province. — A mooting of the above Society will bo held oa Monday next, at 7 o'clook, at the Taranaki Institute, Presbyterian Church. — We call attention t> an advertisement in our advertising columns, annonncing that an auction will bo held on the :23rd instant, of miscellaneous articles, for the purpose of liquidating tho debt on the Presbyterian Church. Parties intending to contribute, are requested to send their articles to Mr, Hood,-Ddvon street.
