THE TARANAKI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY.

The usual monthly meeting of the above Society was held at the Taranaki Institute ou Saturday last. G. Cutfield, Esq., the President, was in the chair. The Secretary (C. D. Whitcombe, Esq.,) read the minutes of the previous meoting, which were confirmed ; the prize list was then gone through, and the amounts awarded to tho successful competitors. The Chairman then annonnced that tho Committee had decided on giviug prizes in cases where only one exhibit had been made, and . •whore the judges had highly commended the artioles exhibited. The following were the — additional awards : — Yearling bull, Mr. J. Dinglo; Mr. J. Dingle ; barley, Mr. J. Pepperall ; • d^Rfooc seed, Mr. A. Kyngdon ; thrashing machine, Mr. Snoll ; six dahlias, Mr. Waller ; grapes, Mr. Hulke ; oollection of jam?, Mr. W. M. Burton. The Secretary then read a letter received from the Secretary of the Sydney Agricultural Society, relative to the introduction of Bulls ; and a discussion ensued as to the advisability of at once organizing a company to import bulls from thence. It was finally decided that as pure stock had been largely introduced into Southland, and the quality of balls there very highly spoken of throughout the Colony, that the Secretary should at once write to the Southland Agricultural Society and obtain all the necessary information, as it was thought that stock could be imported from that Province not only at leps cost, but without much risk. One thing seemed certain from the tone of the meeting, that ere long stock would be imported into the place ; everyone seemed to be impressed with the absolute necessity for makiug a step in the right direction, the lato Show having opened the eyes of tho farming community to the faot that the reproducers of the place were of a very inferior kind. Several of the members present seemed inclined and ready to join a company for tho importation of stock ; if started, could definite arrangements be made as to the keeping and right of using tho animals imported. After some desultory conversation on this subject, the meeting adjourned.
