A correspondent of the Westport Evening Star, writing under Monday's date, gives the following ' information :—: — " There is groat excitement in Hokttika on, tho arrest of Father Larkin and Mr. Manning, tho, •Editor of tho Celt, for sedition. They worobrouglit up before the Resident Magistrate, and'^ remanded till Wednesday. The approach to tho Court was lined with special constables ; , Larkiu, Manning, and tho others wero guarded", by a strong body ofpolioo when ooining to aud leaving tho Court. There aro from 800 to 900 \ special constables sworn in, and all served with. ' batons. " One hundred men are continually on guard, and you are constantly hearing the regular tread of tbe c specials* as the picqnets march through the streets. Thero aro 800 meu sworu iv a3 ' special constables at Ross and nbout 500 at the Hau Hau, aud at the very head-ceutro of, Ftwianism, tho Waimea, there are 1,000 men. s ready to come afc any moment to protect tho - Government. There are 2,000 rifles landed today (Monday), and tbe 'St. Xi dai s coming, rouud with troops. Two companies of Volunteers are now formed, and will bo armed immediately. 1 It is rumoured that 2,000 -Fenians would be in' Uokitika on Wednesday la^t."
