THE OMATA ELECTION.
The nomination of a candidate to represent the Electoral District of Omata in the IJougo o f Bepresentatives, took place at noon yesterday, in tho Taranaki Institute. H. E. Kenny, Esq., Returning Officer, presided, and having road the writ of election and the published electoral notice, expressed his readiness to hear any elector who had a candidate to propose. Mr. J. L. Newman then rose and briofly proposed Charles Brown, Esq., as a fit and proper person to represent the district in the House of Representatives, and in doing so, adverted to a rumour he heard of some elector wishing to bring forward a gentleman not connected with the Province. He thought that a gentjoman having an interest in the Province was the best representative they could have. J. J. Loon Ei' seconded the nomination, and in doing so stated that he had known Mr. Brown for many years, and had always found him consistent in all his political actions. Mr. Brown had an interest in the place and would look after the welfare not only of the distriot he would repre- '■ sent, but of the whole Province. He had much pleasure in seconding the nomination. There being no other candidate proposed, the Returning Officer declared Charles Brown, Esq., to be duly elected. Mr. Bbown rose and briefly thanked the electors, saying he should be most happy to answer any question they might wish to ask him. He had for the last few years interested himself only with provincial matters, and consequently had given little attention to tho politics of the Colony. A vote of thanks to the Returning Officer terminated tho proceedings.
