riTHE New Plymouth Provincial Council 1 having voted fifteen to be fired for by the Taranaki Militia, Volunteers, and Military Settlers, they will be competed for by the Militia and' Volunteers, commencing at 10 o^lock, a.m., on the sth June, 18C5, at the Militia Riflo Range, weathor and th^e state of the Province permitting. The Military Settlers will fire at their respective posts on tho above date, or as soon after as targets can be provided for them. Captains of tho Militia and Volunteers will choose" tho markers, and attend on the days of firing to assist Captain Cumming in carrying out tho terms undermentioned. Captain" Stapp, JtTieutenant Clarke, Instructor of Musketry,, and Sergeant Gloag, T.M.S., will attend the firing of the Military Settlera^the «tsp latter to\assist the captains and officers commanding companies, who will M e "responsible tor the correctness of the/return of the firing. The following are.the terms fo*r firing : ' A revolver to be given to each of the ten bestshots with th^eregulationnfle or breechloading rifle, No 30 bore. !The,.firhig to be according to the ieguktions for H.M. service up to three hundred yards, with the exception^ tHe^bsition, which may be kneeling "or Stherwisb,rbut without artificial rest. / > \ Ties to 'Be ;fised/o# at three hundred yards. ' Should any question arise regarding the eligibility of4he rifles, to be settled by LieutenantCdionel Lepper. A revolver will be given to each of the five l?est tehlpw ' with five or six-chamber revolversA \|ijve shots at each distance of 15, 25, and ijD yards. Ca'pta^ and- officers commanding companies of tnii above forces will have the goodness w forward to this office, not later than the 25th May proximo, the names of their men who wish to compete, and with what weapon. No one will be allowed to fire whose name is not entered on the list called Ttiv. Should any competitor s absent himself when his turn comes to fire, he is to forfeit his chance and a shot be fired in the air, which the marker wifi scor,e as a miss, in order to keep the. number on the list correct. No competitorjto load his rifle before coming to the spot from which he is to fire. No competitor is to let the cock of his rifle down whejj, an unexploded cap is on the nipple, but to keep it at half cock. ' Ammunition provided by the Government. r M.
