Abrival of h.m.s. • Esk' with the Go^ejnou. — H.M. s. ' Esk,' Captain Luce, arrived in harbour at eight o'clock Thursday oveniug from Wellington, with bis Excellency Sir George Grey. His Excel* lenoy, accompanied by his suite, Major Grey (aide-de-rarap), tho Rev; Mr. Thatcher' (Private Seorefcary), and a native chief, named Goovgo Grey, went ou board the '.Esk' .at Wellington, on:"the evening of Saturday last, the Bth instant, and the vessel steamed W*Napier, arriving there, after a ■ pleasant passage of twenty -four hours, at six o'cloolf on Monday morning. His Excellency attended, a meeting of the nalires, which had been previously r o6nvened, in compliance with bis instructions, at the native meeting house. .The proceedings were brief, wuv. of a private nature. His Excellency returned to the vessel in tho evening, and Capt. Laca left for Auckland via the Kawau. At midnight, the ' St. Kiida ' was hailed, and reported her passage from Bishop William'o station, Poverty Bay, with European settlors on board. The , St. Kilda ' reported all quiet amongst the natives oa her leaving that place. About this time tho 'Esk' experiouced heavy weather. Tho wiad continued strong, and increased in streuglh after leaving Cape Colville. She arrived at the Kawau at 7 a.m. yesterday morning, and debarked Sis Excellency aud otaff. A canoe, whioh had be«jnf>rought-up/rom Wanganui, and which h&d been givtsn to his Excullonoy as the property of tho late chief, John Williams, at whoao residence his Escellenoy stayed some time doriug his recent viait to Waugtmui, was put oa6horo, and the Governor and unite having re-enu ;$' barked, the'Esk" left for Auckland at half.pait 3 o'clock, arriving hefa aa stated above. 1 *- Weekly Hews, April 15.
