EXTRACT FROM REGIMENTAL ORDERS.

Taranaki, Ist October, 1800. No. 1. — After 32 years' service in the 65th Regt., and 15 m command, Colonel Gold at length finds that he must part with his long cheiished Corps. In the pestilential clime of British Guitna, under the broiling sun of Barbadoes, from which they were suddenly called by the Canadian rebellion to land in summer garments in the depth of snow, with the thermometer below zero, and the subsequent hardships attending a winter campaign ; then duiing troubles in Ireland, and England, and afteiwaids crossing the vast Ocean in charge of England's criminals., — he has watched with piide their career of patient endurance and coinage. In New Zealand, after H years' bervice, without evei having had an officer in barracks with the men, they remain the pride of all who behold them ; their services in New Zealand have been most creditable to them ; they have worked, or bravely skirmished through the high iern all day, and watched at night, am! theii conduct in camp and quarters h<ts been exemplary. Deep is the Colonel's regret at parting with such a corps, and in doing so he earnestly requests both officers and men to support his woithy successor as they have him, when he doubts not their high character will ever he maintained. With fervent wishes for their futuie welfare, he now bids adieu to the Officers, Non-Commissioned Officeis, and Soldiers, of the gallant 65th Regiment. By Older, (Signed) A. H. Lewis, Lieut, and Adjutant.
