Gaiibaldi has defeated the Neapolitan troops in every action, with only 4000 followers ; has captured Palermo ; and the former, having to capitulate, are to leave with all the honors of war. Garibaldi is about to attack Messina, and will march to-morrow. The Communes are sending addresses for annexation to Piedmont.

The King of Naples, after refusing to recogniso the capitulation, has been obliged to do so. He ordered Palermo to be bombarded as soon as the troops there were defeated, and would have renewed so brutal a measure, but for the assurance that the men would not obey. Troops, men, and officers ate deserting in large numbers to Garibaldi. The king had applied for assistance to both England and France, to prevent Sardinia furthering the movement in Sicily, and to guarantee him possession of his dominions on the main land. Both poweis promptly refused, and with the observation thnt as he refused their counsel befoie, that as he had brought upon himself the present state of affairs, he must take the consequences. Austria also refuses to inteifere. The King has finally, as the last chance to secure his throne, agieed to grant a constitutional representative Government of the most liberal kind, for a geneial amnesty, a new ministry, the adoption of the Italian flag, and a treaty with Sardinia, and a Prince Royal to be Viceroy in Sicily. It it extremely doubtful if the latter will be accepted.

Russia and Spain have demanded of Sardinia that bhe prevents the organization and departure of revolutionaiy bodies for Sibily.

The Emperor of the French and the Prince Regent of Prussia, and all the German sovereigns, have held a conference at Baden Baden. The Emperor declared that he desired and sought for peace with all Europe. An unanimous action was agreed upon amongst the German Piinccs for the futute management of German affairs.

The new anangement for the Australian Postal Service comes into operation by this mail ; and it has been finally agreed that the steamer shall take on the mails to Sydney.

A new Russian loan of £8,000,000 is announced ; an English loan of £12,000,000 for tho national defences is expected. Trade is very dull, and money in demand light. His Honor Acting Chief Justice Dickinson has been knighted. Therhonor of knighthood has been conferred upon William Martin, Esquire, late Chief Justice of New Zealand.

In the obituaiy will he found the names of Albeit Smith, who died on May 23, of bronchitis, at the age of 44 ; S. G. Goodnch (Petci Parley), at New York, in his C7th year ; G. P. R. James, the wellknown novelist, of apoplexy, at Venice, where he was Biitish Consul.
