MONTHLY MEETING AT RANGITATA

INTERESTING DEMONSTRATIONS (From Our Rangitafa Rep.) The monthly meeting ot ! the Rangitata Women's Institute was held in the Rangitata Soldiers' Memorial Hall, Mrs R. Brodie presiding over an excellent attendance oC members, and many visitors. The meeting opened with the singing of the Institute ode. A motion of sympathy was passed with the relatives of the late Mr A. H. Aebott (Temuka). Mr Abbott resided for many years at Rangiiaia and his untimely death came as. a great shock to his many friends. Mesdames Polaschek and Rutherford were elected delegates to attend the half-yearly Federation meeting held at Geraldine on October 11). The competition for the best patched pair of men's trousers was won by Mrs W. J. Heam (first), Mrs G. Tate (second) and Mrs W. Millar (third). The competition for November is for the best vase of flowers. Mrs D. Taylor (Temuka) has also kindly donated a. special prize for this competition. After the ordinary business of the meeting had been concluded, Mrs Brodie introduced Mrs H. Brenton (Belfield), Mrs J. O. J. Oliver (Temuka), and Mr H. McCully (Arundel). Mrs Brenton gave a very instructive demonstration of raw wool' rug making, also explaining the washing and dyeing of the wool. Mrs Brenton also showed some very line specimens of handcraft .including a finished raw wool rug in a very pretty design, tinfoil pictures, and many beautiful articles made of papier mache, all being greatly admired. Mrs. Oliver gave a very inl ('resting talk on New Zealand industries, while Mr M('.Cully bad a. most interesting colled ion of Maori curios. Mr McCully explained Ihe use ■of each article. At 'the conclusion a very hearty vote of thanks was passed lo both speakers and demonstrator, on Ihe motion of Mrs Polaschek. The- hostesses for the evening were Mesdames Watts (3), and Youdale. The singing of the National Anthem concluded a very pleasant evening.
