While blasting operations were proceeding on the main Cambridge to Rotorua road, near Karapiro, some fifteen pounds of blasting powder lying on ground nearby exploded, and three men, John Dennis, W. Armstrong, and Dallas Conte were injured, being severely burned about the face and hands. A Maori named Riwa courageously seized Dennis and dragged him away before the second explosion occurred. The Hon- T- Wilford met this week a deputation from the Women’s Social Progress Movement, which asked him, as Minister of Justice, for amended legislation to prevent the consumption of liquor at cabarets and halls for dancing. Mr Wilford, having read reports from (he four centres, now states that in consideration the local restrictions which can he made by City Councils should provide a satisfactory solution to the matter.
At the monthly meeting of the Hural Intermediate Credits Board, consideration was given to a number of matters bearing on the operation of the new system of “limits ” recently introduced for the benefit of sheep farmers and grain, growers. These classes of fanners will now be able to arrange with the (Board for overdraft limits proportionate to the value of the security offered, up to which they will be entitled to receive advances, when they require money to meet current outgoings tor, farming purposes generally. Detailed workings of the new system have now been settled.
