The Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Public Works, who had been work ing at high pressure, especially in connection with finding work Cor unemployed, was attacked by a fainting fit, and collapsed at a meeting of Cabinet at Wellington recently. Medical aid was sunuinoned, and Mr Ransom speedily recovered consciousness, but it was considered advisable (hat lie should be removed to his residence. This afternoon lie was reported to be greatly improved. Viscount Craig-Aron, addressing (lie Ulster gathering at Hamilton recommended that further primary industries be established in the Dominion. These would assist in a ease of the present industries breaking down for a few years. IFor instance, be said, flax of the kind used in Northern Ireland for fine linen might be grown. Empire trade was the cry to-day and in Ulster his Government gave preference to Empire goods. He strongly opposed importing from lands of sweated labour. At a meeting of the Canterbury Fruitgrowers’ Association recently, it was unanimously decided to make further investigation into ways and means of combating frost, and to continue cominunioation with the Meteorological Offi<-c on the subject of obtaining helpful weather reports. The secretary had already communicated with the Office, and had been assured of its support. It was also decided to set up a committee to confer with other Canterbury Associations on the subject of formulating a scheme for the advertisement of their joint products.
