PERSONAL.

Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., was in Temuka on Thursday. Mr and Mrs H. A. Gapper left Temuka for Dunedin on Thursday. Mrs L. V. Talbot was a passenger by the express on Thursday for Dunedin.

Miss N. Atkins, who has been spending a holiday at Orari with Miss Grimsey, has returned to Wellington.

Miss J. D. Shanks, of the Orari School staff, has been granted three weeks’ leave of absence owing to illness.

Constable England, of Invercargill, is spending a. holiday in Orari with his parents, Mr and Mrs F. L. England.

Word has been received that Mr Macpherson, of Hamner, has been appointed Postmaster at Orari, vice Mr W. D. Moss, transferred to Christchurch.

At the last meeting of the Canterbury Education Board, the resignation of Mr L. W. Grieve, assistant master at the Geraldine District High School, was accepted. Miss C. G. McQueen was appointed infant mistress at Orari, and Mt A. D. Cadwallader assistant master at Waimate.

Opportunity was taken at the Orari Miniature Rifle Clubs’ annual ball on Tuesday, to make a presentation to Miss V. Dunn, who has been a very popular member of the Ladies’ Club for many years, and who has recently left the district to reside in Christchurch. Mrs J. A. Henderson, club captain, who made the presentation of a handsome handbag, said the club regretted losing a. member who had always proved herself a good sport.
