COMMITTEE MEETING,

NEW YEAR PICNIC

A meeting of the Milford Lagoon Committee was held in the Fire Brigade Hall, for the purpose of making arrangements for the New Year’s Day. carnival. There were present: Mr R. McLeod (in the chair), Messrs T. Greelish, H. Phillips, W. Tozer, F. A. Raymond, F. Williams, W. Lawlor, and the secretary (Mr F. Martin).

Before commencing the business, the president referred to the death of the late Mr S. McCully, Avho had been a keen supporter of the Association. He moved that a vote of sympathy be extended to the relatives. The motion Avas carried, members standing in silence. It Avas agreed to hold a carnival at the Lagoon on Noav Year’s Day, and that the Maori item of roasting the bullock be included in the programme. It Avas also agreed to add to the usual sports programme tAVo wrestling items —one for boys 14 years and under, and one for youths 17 years and under —the prizes to be 10s and 7s 6d, and 21s and 15s respectively. ' Mrs F. A. Raymond and Mrs T. E. Gunnion were appointed judges for the baby shoAV, Avhich Avill be in charge of Mr W. McCallum. A committee consisting of Messrs Tozer, LaAvlor, and McLeod, Avas appointed to arrange the sports programme.

The matter of arranging suitable insurances for conveyances, etc., was left .with Mr F. A. Raymond. ‘ It 'was agreed to engage' the services of the Municipal Band, and to arrange for the usual side-shows. The following officials were ap-pointed:—Side-shows, Messrs J. Davis and W. Tozer; traction train, Mr H. Phillips; gatekeepers, Messrs W; Phillips and J. Maze; hot water, Mr F. Williams; sheep guessing, Mr W, Oldfield; sports committee, Messrs D. Grant, L. Hobbs, W. Lawlor, F, A- Raymond, A. R. Beck. J, Fisher, J. Henry, T. E. Shiels; trophy, committee, Messrs T. E. Gunnion, D. O’Connor, R. McLeod, W. McCallum, and T. E. Shiels; stall-holders, ice cream, Mrs P, Martin and Mrs' B, Levens; softdrinks, Mrs W. Tozer, It was decided to hold a dance

on the evening of the picnic, and /to engage the services of Simes’ orchestra. - The matter of repairing the groyne temporarily was discussed, and it - was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the president with power to act.
