GERALDINE SCHOOL

CONCERT IN AID OF PRIZE FUND. The Town Hall, Geraldine, was packed to the*doors, and! even standing* room in the vestibule was at a premium, at the school concert in aid of the prize funds. Parents and 'friends of the children may always be depended upon to assemble in their numbers to see the “kiddies” perform, and, indeed, it is a most inspiring sight to see the youngsters disporting themselves so joyously on the stage. The concert was absolutely splendid, and if one could be allowed to comment on any single item, which may be considered invidious by some, the girls .drill by pupils of standards five and six was the gem- of the evening. This performance. would not have disgraced professionals. The boys’ drills were also very good; in fact, the whole programme was a rare treat. The infants, who thoroughly entered into the spirit of the play, did very well, and the “Moonshine Dance,” by girls, was a beautiful spectacle, with the changing coloured lights playing upon the performers. The second part, which was put on by the secondary department, embraced a play entitled “The Dear Departed,” which was acted. The idea was that Grandpapa had died, and while lying cold 'in an upstairs room, his grand* daughter and her husband had added to their furnishings by annexing some of the old gentleman’s things. But, grand-dad was not dead, and suddenly appeared in their midst, and the consternation he brought with him made a tremendous anticlimax. Folk dances were very pretty, and the final tableau was a very bright and pretty scene, the whole band ot actors, both white and black, being assembled on the stage;

The chairman (Mr A'. M. Pyfe) who presided, extended an invitation to the parents and public to attend the prize-giving.
