TEMUKA LIBRARY.

MEETING OP COMMITTEE, When the Library Committee met in the members’ room on Thursday evening, there were present: MrG. B. Cartwright (president), in the chair, Mesdames Thomson, G. B. Cartwright, W. J. Cartwright, T. E. Shiels, Mr W. 51. Evans, and the secretary (Mr F. J. Smith). Apologies were received for the absence of Mr and Mrs Smart, Mr and Mrs Blackmore, Mr and Mrs Salmon, Mr and Mrs Sutcliffe, Mrs W. P. Evans, Miss Manson, Messrs W. H. McMillan and W.’T Kingston. The chief business of the evening was to receive the report and bal-ance-sheet in connection with the recent staging of plays by the S.C. Dramatic League. The balancesheet showed that the receipts had been £33, and the expenses had amounted to £25 2s, leaving a credit balance of £7 18s. ' The chairman said that the result had not been as good as they had expected, hut the cause of the Library had come before the public, who would, no doubt, realise that the committee were working ip the best interests of the institute. Mi 1 Evans thought that, under the circumstances, they had every reason to be satisfied, especially in view of the very adverse weather conditions which had prevailed on the night of the entertainment. On his motion, the report and balancesheet were adopted. The librarian (Mrs T. Webb) reported that during November, six new members had joined and one old member re-joined, bringing the total membership to 177. The sum of £7 7s had been collected for subscriptions, fines, etc. The attendance in the public reading room had been well, up to the average, but no doubt this would be less during the summer months. One thousand seven hundred and seventy-eight hooks had been exchanged, ten of these being non-fiction, and f , eight new books had been placed on the shelves. The report was adopted.

, Attention was drawn to the state of the linoleum on the floors, and it. was decided to ask Mr Scrimshaw to give this immediate attention. Mr, W. F. Evans brought up the question of fixing dates for the Library bazaar, and after a short discussion, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 10th, 11th and 12th May, 1928, were fixed as the dates.. trior to the termination of the meeting, the chairman extended the season’s greetings to members of the committee, to the librarian, and to the press.
