Fisher, chairman of the bazaar committee, introduced to the audience Mr T. D. Burnett, M.P., and asked the latter to officially open the, entertainment. Mr Fisher added that he felt sure they were all very pleased to see Mr Burnett looking so well. Mr Bamiett, who was very well received, ■ expressed! his pleasure at being able to be present to open (be 1 sale of work and South .Island chdiii- ' pionship lug-oLwar. The Druids, who were organising the affair, were a very friendly body, and particularly so to. members of their lodge. They were out to build; a hall in Temuka for the. purposes of the lodge. They had a nice little nest egg laid away and, patient as mules, ‘were going oil to achieve their object. Before proceeding further, Mr Burnett said he was glad: to congratulate the Temuka Band upon its playing at the Post Office corner. It had been a pleasant surprise to him, coming from such young players. Mr, Burnett went on to say that a tug-of-nvar was not a game for weaklings, hut rather for men of might and muscle, and the anchor man must have ballast. He (Mr Burnett) wished the function all success, and urged the people to support it on the succeeding nights. He reminded the people that by helping the Druids to erect a nice hall in the main street of Temuka. they (the townspeople) would be helping themselves by addition to the attractions of an already very attractive town.
