PRESENTATION

TO MRS (DR.) SCANNELL. FROM WAR RELIEF SOCIETY. The usual monthly meeting of the War Relief Society was held at the residence of Dr. Scannell on Friday evening, Mr, G. W. Armitage occupying the chair. After much routine business had been transacted the chairman in referring to the coming departure of Mrs (Dr.) Scannell, who, with her children will leave New Zealand for England on Wednesday, said that the Society from its inception 10 years ago had many pleasant meetings but the gathering that evening was the happiest of all. . They were met to make a. small presentation to Mrs Scannell as a'slight appreciation of her many kindnesses to the branch. Mrs Scannell had) invariably provided supper after the meetings, ' and although they pleaded guilty to j giving her a lot of extra work,, yet j tlnoy woo'd urge in extenuation dial the -supper was so templing (bat they could not resist it. Not- | withstanding the great amount of

trouble they gave her, she was always cheery and---pleasant-and they could not allow her to leave Teniuka on her journey Home without making some recognition small though it may be, of her gracious hospitality. On behalf of ■ the Temuka; branch he would therefore ask Mrs Scannell to accept a gold mounted fountain pen with the hope that she would use it in writing • frequent letters to one whom, he believed, would highly appreciate any correspondence written by her. (Applause.) Mr M. H. McLeod and Mr If. .15. Cooper, Jnr, added their thanks.and wished Mrs ■Scannell a pleasant voyage Home, many happy ■hours with, her people, and a safe return to her people. Mrs Scannell, who was completely taken by surprise, thanked the mem bers of the Society .for their 'happy thought and said she had only been too glad to do what little she could to further the interest oi tlio 'Sodi-f' cty.
