CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS. RINK COMPETITION. WON BY GERALDINE. Intense interest was manifested at Geraldine on Saturday afternoon when it became -known that at 12.30 p.m. the Champion Rink sent by the Geraldine Club to compete in the South Canterbury Champion of Champions Rink ‘competitions • at Timaru had won its Ist round match with Temuka by 17 —11, and was 20, up to Ashburton's 10, with two heads to go in the second round. Later on came the news that the Country Club rink had disposed of Timaru by '3o'to 9, and the excitement reached fever heat when at 6.30 it was announced that they Were playing the final with KiaToa, and that the score on the eighth head was S all. It was not, until an hour later that the final result was known, and the enthusiasm of both howlers and public reached a climax when it was un..(lerstood that . the Geraldine Club had reached the, height of its ambition and- for the first time in its existence held the proud position of Champion of South Canterbury. The result was by Mr Knight, in the Theatre, and was received with applause.. The individual members of the rink which was composed of Messrs J. W. Miller, J. Campbell, C. Stock and D. Hatton (sk), when they arrived were .heartily congratulated by their fellow members and Mends on their fine performance. After the match was over, Mr J. Moyes, in ,the absence of the president of the centre Mr R. Shillito, Who is the Geraldine Club’s delegate on the Centre, presented the certi-. ficates to the winners, In doing so, he congratulated them on their mer itorious display.' Some would have it, remarked Mr Moyes, that bowls was a lucky game but the lucky team bad not won that day. They had., played consistently right through the day, and he hoped that their win would do good for the club and help to place on the map again. Mr Hatton, skip of the winning rink, thanked Mr-Moyes for his rej marks about’ the team. Though j they were a country club, they had j some fine players, and their tearii that day was not their best, foi they had to rely on men who could afford the time to play. Geraldine 2.4; Kia Toa 18. Geraldine started off well in the final scored three on the first head and two on the second. The next three went to Kia Toa', who carried their total to 7. The latter failed to score from the eighth to the twelfth heads, when Geraldine led 16—8. At the sixteenth head the country players had increased their lead to 9, but four points in the two succeeding heads, saw Kia Toa within striking distance. When the last head was commenced, Geraldine were five up and they secured another point in this, giving them the championship.

NORTH CANTERBURY v. SOUTH CANTERBURY. Geraldine sent a rink on Saturday to compete in this match, which was won by the North by 201 points to 192.
