ROYAL SHOW LAMBS ON SMITHFIELD. In connection with the cable received from Loudon recently regarding the prize lambs from the Royal Show which was held at Auckland last November, and which were judged at Smithfield, it is very satisfactory to note ■ that tlie judges considered them one of the finest displays of lamb seen on the Smithfield market, and it is also pleasing to note that the dressing, condition and genera] finish of them were excellent. Messrs Harrods Ltd., purchased the whole of the 93 carcases for the purpose of making a special display in their store. With the object of breeding: the right class of lambs most suitable for our Dominion’s export trade, and the type most desired to keep up our reputation on the London market, the New Zealand Meat .Producers’ Board introduced these classes into the Royal Show—each individual lamb in the pen not to exceed 72lbs live weight, and to be judged on the show ground before being killed. The prizes for the best pens alive were awarded by the Meat Board as follows:—First prize £ls, second prize £lO, third prize £5. ■All the lambs entered in this cla;ss were shipped Home to the Board’s London manager, who, arranged for a special display of them on Smithfield. The carcases were judged by three judges appointed by the British Incorporated Society of Meat Importers. Prizes for the best lot of three carcases as judged on Smithfield were awarded by the Meat Board as follows:—First prize £ls, second prize £lO, third prize £5.
