“YES, THAT SLOGAN!”

To the Editor. Sir,—A correspondent in favour of “Choose Charming Temuka,” seems to be “one in authority,” as he tells us the idea of enlisting the Council’s aid “will he considered for what it is worth.” The same writer questions the ability of those against “That Slogan” to think logically. What about his own noni-de-guerre? Are we to take him at his own estimate, as in Latin he signs himself ‘‘A voice and nothingmore.” Sir. clearly we should count this kind out as an authority on slogans. The ill-advised suggestion that writers against the slogan are jealous is childish. The writer. “Advance Temuka,” forgot to put all his signature in. It should have read “Don’t Advance Temuka.” How strangely this writer thinks! Indeed, some of his letter is amazing. Let him note no writer on the slogan question has shown the slightest tendency to criticise the Business Men’s Association for “boosting” the town. I believe every correspondent desires to help the Association to that desirable end, hut they, with a great many others, would be sorry indeed to see the xissociation perpetuate an absurdity. To stand alone, “Choose Charming Temuka” is wanting in sense. If it requires to have supporting sentences to give point and value to its words, then it should not be considered at all. The Business Men’s Association certainly should submit all the slogans, leaving the community to pick out a suitable one. as it is not their privilege to fasten ridicule that brings discredit against the intelligence of their own townspeople.—l am, etc., “Do What You Do with all Your Ability and Power.” [ln our last issue a typographical error was made in the nom-de-plume of our correspondent “Vox et Pracferea Nihil,” which should have read “Vox et Praeterea Nihil,” but our correspondent, “Do What You Do, etc.,” was not misled by the error, for his translation is, according to Webster, correct.]
