Mr G. B. Cartwright (Mayor of Temuka) returned to Temuka yesterday from attending the Municipal Conference at Palmerston North. Mrs Brunton, of Holme Station, is visiting Mrs T. Gunnion, Temuka. Miss C. Hope leaves for Palmerston North to-day. Mr and the Mieses L. and M. Gason (Milford) motored through to Dunedin on Wednesday. Miss Jones (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs Worm, Wood street, Temuka. Mr A. Allfrey, of Waimate, ar-
rives in Ternuka to-day, and will temporarily join the staff of the “Temuka Leader.” Mr J. Kennedy, Mayor of Geraldine, returned home yesterday from the Municipal Conference, which was held during the week at Palmerston North. . m ncauji. Captain A. Bartlett, late- of the
Teinuka Salvation Army, in sending his regards to the ‘Leader” staff, writes that he and Mrs Bartlett have settled down to their new corps and quite a good work is going on. Ten good cases of conversion have taken place during the past three weeks. They have a splendid silver band,
line troops of Scouts and Guards, a large Sunday school and a full hall to greet them every Sunday. The death, is announced at Ashburton of Mr James Bland Christian, who for many years has. been secretary of the Ashburton A. and P. Association, and .closely connected
with other institutions in that town. The late Mr Christian was Avellknown all over South Canterbury as
quite <"n authority on agricultural matters, aml his death will be very much regretted by a large circle of friends and acquaintances. A few ■weeks ago he underwent a serious operation .from which he never properly recovered, . and' although able to resume business, took to his bed last week and passed away on Tuesday afternoon.
