TEMUKA DISTRICT NEWS,

The wheat' market is disorganised, a sale of wheat, 3000 h&gp, having taken place yesterday at Ashburton at 5/7 for immediate delivery, having the effect of collapsing the local market. For im(mediate dtiliyerly, merchants offer 5/7 Tuscan, 5/8 Hunters, and 5/10 Velvet. At these prices there is little prospect of much business. Merchants and farmers will both be waiting to see what way the market will go. Chaff is in poor demand. March delivery sales are reported at £3 per ton, sacks extra. Some samples of oats are. now coming to,. hand, but the price offering does not attract many sales. Partridge peas are slightly easier, 6/10 being the best obtainable for No. 1. Fortunately most of the local farmers sold; early at better prices. There seems little chance of the embargo being lifted off potatoes, and farmers are now beginning to meet the market, several sales taking place every day for April, May, June dalivery. Auckland is inquiring now for forward delivery, and the result is a 5/- per ton improvement. The ryegrass market is quiet, Perennial selling freely at late rates, with but small inquiry for Western and Italian. Crested dogstail is firm at late rates. It is yet early to report on ■clover, as few samples have been submitted, but present prospects are for a record crop with fair prices ruling.
