RUBBISH REMOVAL.
To the Editor,
Sir, —iCan you tell me whether there is a dustman in Temuka? If there is, why have the rubbish bins, left on the road in King street south (near the south boundary of the Borough) not been cleared? They have been standing there at least for four days now. If there is no dustman, then why are people allowed to let rubbish remain in such an important roadstead? As one who considers the interests of Temuka, I say it is a disgrace (verging on a menace after dark) do such a progressive town as ours, I fain would occupy your columns, but this is by no means the first lime that I have seen refuse tins bn the footpaths there for days at a time.—l am, etc., EYESORE. Temuka, 16/XS/2C.
[A “Leader” reporter has verified the fact that a dustbin has been left on the footpath as stated in the above letter, and. the only explanation of its non-removal appears to be that it was taken out after the dustman had gone on his round. The Council services are generally well maintained, so it is quite improbable that the dustman wilfully or otherwise neglected to remove the refuse. Certainly the bin is a source of danger to.anyone using the footpath at night, hut under the circumstances one would think the person responsible for putting it on the path would have removed it inside again ere now.— Editor.] -
