FAREWELL SOCIAL

TO MR AND MISS ROBERTSON.

•On Monday evening a large number of residents met at Mr John Robertson’s house to bid farewell to Mr J. and Miss Mattie Robertson, who are leaving the district to reside at Rhohormtgh Downs. Apologies wer e received from Messrs D. C. Scott, A. T. Langford, R. Maddren, A. Shaw and T. Harrison, all of whom wished Mr and Miss Robertson every prosperity in the futu're. Mr T. H. Langford, who presided, said they had met that evening for the purpose of making a presentation to Mr and Miss Robertson, who Were leaving Winchester. The large number of residents present showed the very high esteem in which the Robertson family were held in the district. Everyone present wished them every prosperity in their new home. Mr Robertson had proved himself a good neighhour, always willing to do anyone a good turn. Mr Langford said he had much pleasure in presenting him with a case of Loewe pipes, and hoped he' would be long spared '.to enjoy many smokes out of them. To Miss Robertson, Mr Langford said: “We are proud of you, the way you have looked after the home since y.qulr mother passed away, and also the interest that you have taken, in your father and ■brothers. We sincerely trust you will do well in your new home. In presenting you with this silver toilet set, we hope it will remind you of the many friends you are leaving.” (Loud applause). Mr J. C. South said he had known Mr Robertson for nearly 30 years, and had always found him a straight forward man. .Since going to Winchester to live he had gathered in many friends. To Miss Robertson he wished every happiness in the futtnre. Her many friends here would miss her, hut they hoped to see her from time to time. Mr G. Sheldon, speaking on behalf of the Waihi Football Club, said Mr Robertson was one of the club’s strongest supporters. He was always willing to assist, and he had ■ much pleasure in wishing Mr and Miss Robertson every prosperity in the future. .Messrs J. White, W. Emsiie, J. Whiles, J. L. Bennett, H. A. Philp, J. K. .Scott and W. Boston also spoke in eulogistic terms of Mr and Miss Robertson, all wishing them everything that was good for the future. ■Mr Robertson, who was loudly cheered on rising to reply, said he had to thaiik them very much for their handsome presents. He could assure them they very much appreciated their kindly action. It had always been a pleasure to assist in anything for the: welfare of the iplace. As for what he had done for the football club, it was a labour of love, as his heart was in the, game. He felt that he was leaving many kind friends , behind him, but it would give him the greatest pleasure to see them sometimes in their new home, where he could assure them of a hearty welcome. (Applause). Songs 'were sung by Messrs J. L. Bennett, W. Emsiie, G. Sheldon, V. 1 and N. Robertson. Miss Mattie Robertson played the accompaniments very tastefully, and Mr J. Black gave an exhibition of sleight ■ of hand tricks very cleverly. A S most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Attld > Lang Syne.”
